Duane van Helvoirt (Helmond, 1986) has fought professional MMA since 2007, building his record against opponents of real pedigree — no padded résumé, but bouts against legends like Caol Uno and Takeshi Inoue at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall. It earned him a shot at the Shooto world title; COVID-19 decided otherwise. The Shooto European title at –70.3 kg, he does hold.
Away from the cage he is a judo black belt, a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Frans van Casteren and Gracie Barra legend Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhães, and he studied Sport and Movement Education at HAN University of Applied Sciences. Since the start of his career he has kept a diary around every fight — how he feels before, during and after. It is the quiet engine behind twenty years of craftsmanship.
